  • This took a little additional work to resolve...
Accordinging to http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/external/cumnor/ :- "2529 SHERWOOD John (born 1822 in Cumnor; died 1898 in Cumnor) married Mary NEALE (born 1821 in Cumnor; died 1848 in Cumnor) married at Cumnor in 1843. He was an agricultural labourer living in lower High St. Cumnor. Children: Ann 1845-1867, Emma 1847 -1915 (Grave 183: 'after long suffering')."

It is incorrect as is the "1847" for Emma's birth according to the actual grave, and no such person exists in that or surrounding years in freebmd.

The same web-site also has "2532 SHERWOOD James b.1854 S.Hinksey - m.Emma ..... bc.1852 Oxford". This the Emma the grave relates to. The 1911 census tallies for James+Emma listing 4 children 1 of which died and bodley lists chn: Eliza (married Mark Costar), Arthur & Clara. Given we know Clara died aged 4 from the grave, she can't have gone on to marry Frank Heavens. A person named Clara Sherwood was born Jun qtr 1888 (Abingdon 2c 290) possibly the person of the same name who married in 1907 (Abingdon 2c 769) and this does indeed tally with Albert Frank Heavens. From the 1891 census, Emma & James are with Eliza, Arthur & Clara (3 years old) in Cumnor; so it seems they named another daughter Clara.
