There are too many coincidences that lead to the believe there is confusion in the Bodley labelling of cross vs. flat. Bodley have #216 & #217
#216 name: AYERS Thomas year: 1837 age: 68 location: 5f 9.9 type: Cross Inscription fairly legible occupants: 1. Burial: 1887 15 Feb AYRES Mary Ann Cumnor 68 yrs #217 name: AYERS Thomas year: 1876 age: 75 location: 5f 9.9 type: Flat grave. Inscription fairly legible. occupants: 2. Burial 1876 27 Jul AYRES Thomas Cumnor 75 yrs The base has the writing, and what looks like 2 people. The cross is clearly part of it as the base has a scar where it seems to be attach (indentation). The 1837 is possibly a misread 1887, and the "Mary relict of THOMAS" has most likely been taken as THOMAS as has happened in the case of another grave using the relict term. Both 216 & 217 have the same reference which means within 0.1M.. There is no visible flat stone in that vicinity. Occupation: Farmer PARENTS: - AYERS Job born c1769 in Cumnor, died in 1852; buried 24th March 1851; Cumnor aged 84. - AYERS Keziah born c1776; died c1852; buried 17th January 1852 in Cumnor, aged 78.
