Buried in Cumnor

Cataloguing

It took little more than a few hours for us to photograph the 700+ readable graves, then many more spent cropping the photos neatly...

Transcribing them all took months as numerous graves were extremely difficult to read due to lichen and weathering. In some instances, we had to get creative, relying on 1986 the Cumnor History society church survey and known positions. Knowing the names & dates assisted with those that were hard to read. Some are simply from logical deduction & elimination.

Linking the transcription to a person’s birth, baptism, marriage & death records, their obituary, parents, siblings and children required extensive searching of FreeBMD, local newspapers, OFHS burial index, Ancestry & the 1986 Cumnor History society church survey website.
